Our Mission
Empower New Zealanders to live, work, and build their lives in Europe by making publicly available immigration information easier to understand, transparent, and human. Born from first-hand migrant experience, MFICS helps reduce confusion around visas and bureaucracy by explaining official processes, highlighting relevant bilateral agreements, and providing structured information so individuals can navigate European immigration systems with confidence and clarity.
A Kiwi Who’s Been There, Done That

When Mark first arrived in Europe, there was very little clear information available for New Zealanders and even less awareness of how bilateral agreements could apply specifically to Kiwi citizens.
Through extensive independent research and guidance from local contacts, he discovered that New Zealanders often have access to visa pathways and privileges that are not widely understood.
Since 2015, Mark has supported the New Zealand community through the “New Zealanders in France” Facebook group by sharing research, publicly available information, and lived experience. With an expanded network and years of focused research into European visa frameworks and bilateral agreements, he launched MFICS to support Kiwis across Europe through structured information and education.
He’s not a consultant or legal adviser, he’s a Kiwi who’s lived the journey himself and helps others understand the landscape before they take their next step.

Complex Landscape
Europe isn’t one country – it’s 29 EU nations plus 15 across the continent, each with different rules.
Bilateral Agreements
NZ has 17 recognised bilateral agreements that apply specifically to New Zealanders, do you know them all?
ETIAS Coming
With the mandatory ETIAS system rolling out in 2026, Europe is tightening its borders. Don’t get caught out
Yes, New Zealand holds one of the world’s strongest passports, but European immigration systems are still complex. Some countries allow applications in-country, while others require advance preparation and embassy appointments.
Relying on informal advice, outdated online posts, or incomplete information can lead to misunderstandings, delays, or missed opportunities and can lead to:
- Visa refusals
- Overstays and legal complications
- Wasted months (or years) of planning
- Missed opportunities and deadlines
MFICS helps by explaining official rules, timelines, and common processes, so individuals can approach their own applications informed and prepared.

A Little About Me
Mark Fyers’ immigration journey began in Canada, where he lived and worked under multiple working holiday visas. This gave him first-hand experience navigating application requirements, timelines, and administrative processes.
After living in several European countries over the last decade, he developed a strong understanding of how European immigration frameworks function in practice, alongside extensive research into New Zealand’s bilateral agreements and Schengen-area rules.

Over the past eleven years, Mark has collaborated with Kiwis across Europe and New Zealand by sharing research-based information and process explanations in community Facebook groups.
His focus on research and official documentation has helped many New Zealanders better understand complex immigration rules and communicate more effectively with embassies and authorities, always as individuals acting on their own behalf.
Outside of MFICS, Mark works full-time as a TV and film screenwriter and enjoys tennis, hiking, and exploring the outdoors.
